A Smarter Way to Save More

Cash Balance Plans for Business Owners

Many business owners feel the same pressure: you’ve taken care of the company, but your personal retirement savings haven’t kept pace. If that sounds familiar, a cash balance plan may be worth a closer look.

In this 30-minute session, we’ll explain how cash balance plans help owners save significantly more for retirement than a typical 401(k) or Profit Sharing plan allows – and when the approach actually makes sense. You’ll learn how these plans work at a high level, why they can reduce today’s tax burden, and what conditions make them practical to use.

We’ll cover:

  • The problem cash balance plans are designed to solve
  • How they help high-earning owners save more in a short window
  • The potential tax benefits – and where complexity comes in
  • Who these plans tend to work best for
  • Real-world limitations that often get overlooked
  • The questions to answer before moving forward

This webinar won’t get into actuarial mechanics or product sales. It’s a clear, honest look at how these plans support retirement savings for business owners – and how to know if they’re worth exploring in your situation.

About the Presenters

John Resurreccion, CFP®

Parkwoods’ Head of Retirement Services

Hi, I’m John Resurreccion, and I am passionate about helping employees save for retirement. I have spent nearly my entire 15+ year career assisting financial advisors, employers, and their employees with their workplace retirement plans.

As the son of two schoolteachers, I have seen first-hand how a generous retirement benefit can make a retirement dream come true. My parents were fortunate enough to have defined benefit plans which took the decision making and investment risk off of their shoulders and provided for consistent income in retirement. While today’s preferred retirement benefit, the 401(k), offers many great benefits to employees and employers, an effective plan requires an experienced, fiduciary advisor to guide both business owners and their employees. At Parkwoods, we build workplace retirement plans that business owners can be proud to offer to their employees.

After graduating from San Diego State University with a master’s degree in financial and tax planning, I began my career at an advisory firm in Irvine, CA where I quickly assumed the role of Retirement Services Manager. I then took on roles at LPL Financial, Dimensional Fund Advisors and Vestwell (a fintech start-up focused on employer-based savings solutions including 401k plans, Emergency Savings, 529s and Payroll IRAs). The bulk of my career was spent at Dimensional, where as Vice President and Regional Director, I consulted with advisors on how to build their retirement plan solution so that it was differentiated from the typical advisor yet impactful for both business owners and their employees.

I hold both the Certified Financial Planner and Accredited Investment Fiduciary designations.
